Having previously been a little flighty...
...with spells in places as far afield as Cornwall, New Mexico and Edinburgh, I’ve put down family roots in the Tweed Valley, Scottish Borders. A magnet for those who love playing outdoors, it’s an ideal base for exploring the activities, wildlife and people that shape Scotland’s outdoor world.
Much of my time is spent writing about the natural riches of Scotland, editing and contributing features for the membership magazines of organisations such as the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and National Trust for Scotland, plus the likes of Riviera Travel’s Discover Magazine, BBC Wildlife Magazine, CNN Traveller and various in-flight publications.
As well as scribbling magazine features, I also launched and served as founding editor of the award-winning Scotland Outdoors magazine; authored wildlife travel guides to Scotland and edited mountain biking and walking guides for the excellent Pocket Mountains; served as publications editor for wild land charity John Muir Trust; and provide copywriting and blogging services for various outdoorsy businesses – often also supplying accompanying images.
Throw in tourism promotion and development for GO Tweed Valley and press work for the Eastgate Theatre & Arts Centre in Peebles – a vibrant hub for the arts in the Scottish Borders – and the day job is always fresh and interesting.
